Why Slava sends people here
If you are buying in Saddle River, this is the town's landmark table: a historic building on the river, a few minutes from the estates Slava sells, with the kind of room people book for an anniversary or to celebrate a closing. It is about as Saddle River as it gets.
The story
The building on Barnstable Court was working long before it served dinner: the Inn's own history says that as early as 1840 it was operating as a sawmill and basket weaving factory, part of what was then the William Packard Estate. Hans and Imelda Egg opened it as a French restaurant in 1981 and set a standard in French fine dining for more than three decades.
In 2013 chef Jamie Knott and Peter Liloia bought the business and kept the tradition going. Today it is a contemporary French restaurant on the banks of the Saddle River, built around Prime dry-aged beef, line-caught seafood and local produce. New Jersey Monthly keeps it on its list of the 50 best restaurants in the state, and OpenTable has named it one of the 100 best restaurants in America in 2017, 2023 and 2024.
