Why Slava sends people here
When a deal closes, this is the kind of dinner it deserves: a New York City steakhouse without the drive into the city, at The Shops at Riverside. Easy to get to from anywhere in Bergen County, and big enough for the whole family.
The story
Josh Capon, the chef known from Chopped and Beat Bobby Flay, opened Capon's Chophouse at The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack in late 2025, his first restaurant in New Jersey. It took over the space that had been The Grill at Riverside and is run with the VCR Group.
The idea is a classic American chophouse done the modern way: prime cuts, pristine seafood and a lively room, open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. New Jersey Monthly put it on both its best new restaurants and best steakhouses lists within its first year, singling out the Snake River Farms Wagyu New York strip.
