Why Slava sends people here
For a long Italian dinner with clients or family, Bottagra checks every box: a building with real history, a deep wine list and private rooms when the table gets big. It is an easy drive from Ridgewood, Wyckoff and Franklin Lakes.
The story
Bottagra sits in a historic Revolutionary War era house on Wagaraw Road in Hawthorne. Chef Carlo Carbonaro opened it with his business partner Robert Vicari in 2008, and it has been serving lunch and dinner ever since: a seasonal, modern Italian menu of appetizers, pastas and entrees, with a wine list Vicari has said runs past 400 bottles.
The house's history is part of the experience. Hawthorne's commemorative dinner for the nation's 250th anniversary is set for Bottagra on October 17, 2026. Private rooms make it a go-to for business dinners and family celebrations.
